Hadis Vahidi, an Iranian-Canadian Vancouver based painter and sculptor, delves into the representation of ever-morphing creatures intertwined with vegetative forms in her multidisciplinary practice, which includes oil on canvas and mixed media sculpture.  Her work navigates the question of forms in a manner that eschews metaphoric condensation, symbolization, or iconic representation. Instead, Vahidi`s oeuvre engages perception primarily through affect and sensorial. Her sculptures extend her exploration in painting, formalizing a desire to expand the boundaries of painting into a spatial domain. The aesthetic experience in Vahidi`s practice transcends traditional notions of 'beauty', focusing instead on the dissolution of art historical boundaries between 'the beautiful' and 'the grotesque'.
